One Sunday, July 3rd at around 4pm Susan and I, my brother Keith and his wife Diane, and Cody, our grandson, visited the 2011 Peachtree Road Race Health and Fitness Expo in Atlanta. My brother and his wife drove up from Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday to visit with us and run the PRR. This was their first Peachtree Road Race. In March Susan and I went to Jacksonville to run the
Gate River Run with them.
The Expo is located at the AmericasMart which is about 24 miles from our house. The address is 230 Spring St. N.W., Building 2, West Wing Atlanta, GA 30303 which is in the middle of downtown Atlanta. Our GPS navigation system would not let me enter the address or find the venue in its points of interest. We decided to wing it! After exiting the interstate and a few tense moments we finally found our destination. It was a miracle. I never go downtown and almost had to ask directions from another driver at a stop light. On a previous trip to Atlanta, 2 weeks earlier, my brother drove to the IKEA strore with his and my wife. Luckily for me I had to work. He used my dash mounted GPS which didn't go well. My wife later told me that he threatened to throw my GPS out the window. It was one of those weekends when the DOT had the connector all messed up for construction. My brother learned nothing from the perilous trip of the Donner Party and like those early American pioneers he tried to take a shortcut. It was a deadend. Since I was driving during this trip we made it to our destination unscathed. We parked the car in paid parking right across the street from the venue entrance door (which was locked). Signs on the sidewalk directed us to the other side of the building and the extrance to the Expo.

As you can see from the images the expo was very crowded. Diane bought a pair of shoe inserts and a pair of sunglasses. Susan bought an LED ring. I bought a few Shot Bloks and picked up a free sample packet of Sports Beans, a bottle of 5-hour Energy, and a Publix bag. If I needed any running stuff then this would have been a good time to get it because some of the prices seemed pretty good. It's possible that some of the vendors marked down their merchandise because the Expo was only open for a few more hours.
So, it's probably a more efficient use of time and money to have your race number mailed to you. That's what I've done in the past two years and what I plan to do in the future.
That's about it for the 2011 Peachtree Road Race Expo.
