My Smoothie Recipe

This is my really my wife's recipe for creating the perfect smoothie.

The ingredients are few and it's very simple to make. I use an Oster BPST02 blender. It's a heavy duty single speed blender, just on and off, with a 40oz glass jar. The product description says it's a 2-speed blender but the other speed is pulse which again is on and off.

The ingredients for 1 12oz serving are 1 banana, 2 HEAPING tablespoons of plain yogurt, and 1 bowl of frozen fruit.

Put the yogurt and the peeled the banana in the blender. Soften the frozen fruit by heating it in the microwave for 30-seconds on high. Add the fruit to the blender. Blend the contents until smooth.

Why should I thaw the fruit?  It quickens the blending time and saves your blender from being damaged trying to mix a block of frozen ingredients.  If 30-seconds is to long than try 25-seconds!

Serve in a Tervis tumbler with a bendy straw.

Probably the best place to purchase frozen fruit is at Costco.  They carry 6-lbs bags of Spectrum Blend Mixed Fruit by Wawona Frozen Foods which includes peaches, strawberries, white peaches, pineapple, honeydew melon, and blueberries.

I don't add any honey and don't use non-fat yogurt.

You can freeze extra bananas that you're afraid will go bad before you can eat them.  Peel the bananas and slice them into 1/4" chips.  Put the chips into a freezer bag and place it in the freezer.  This allows you to break off a portion of the frozen bananas to use in your next smoothie.  Never freeze the whole banana because to peel will stick to the meat and it will create a mess when you want to use it.  Soften the frozen banana chips like you would the other frozen fruit before blending.

Enjoy!
